Title:

Staff Nurse (Cardiology) Dublin – Full time / Part-time hours considered

Reporting to:

Executive Team encompassing General Manager, Medical Director and Research and Development Director

Reporting Responsibilities:

None

Location:

St. Michaels Hospital, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

Purpose:

This is an exciting multi—faceted daytime Monday to Fridayrole working with a multidisciplinary team providing clinical care to patients across the heart failure spectrum.  In addition to day to day proactive heart failure screening it allows for the active participation in innovative investigator-led research studies in the cardiology therapeutic area.

Key Tasks:

STOP HF (Heart Failure Screening Programme)

Working with your colleagues:

  • Responsible for providing best practice clinical care to patient cohort coming in to the Unit for STOP HF cardiovascular risk factor modifications
  • Undertake nursing assessment of patients
  • Devise and implement care plans for screened patients
  • Log, and input data onto the database in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure all medications are documented and if alterations are required refer these to the Dr on-site
  • Operate to GCP guidelines at all times
  • Undertake venepuncture, phlebotomy and bio-banking tasks as scheduled and in line with bio-banking SOP’s
  • To operate in full compliance with GDPR data management policies including the Health Research 2018 legislation in all aspects of managing a patients data / record

Heart Failure Unit

  • Responsible for providing best practice clinical care to patient cohort coming in to the Unit
  • Undertake nursing assessment of patients
  • Devise and implement care plans for HF patients
  • To operate in full compliance with GDPR data management policies including the Health Research 2018 legislation in all aspects of managing a patients data / records
  • Attend all weekly departmental meetings

Clinical Trials

  • To provide assistance in clinical trials within the Unit on occasion and when requested by unit director

Research

  • To participate in research opportunities if they are of interest and are time appropriate

Personnel development

  • Maintain Professional Registration
  • Undertake further education as appropriate to keep updated with changes   within the field of heart failure.
  • Take responsibility for own professional development and updating
  • Attend and participate in:
  • In service and staff education
  • Staff Conferences
  • Appropriate outside conferences

Qualifications / Experience:

Essential:

  • RGN with a minimum of 3 years post registration experience.
  • Must be registered with An Bord Altranais.
  • Have a minimum of 1 years cardiology experience.
  • Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary team in a clinical environment.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Phlebotomy Certification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Flexibility in working hours.
  • ICT literate with database management skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to use initiative.
  • Must have the ability to work in a complementary role to medical colleagues & other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives.

*Please note that Garda vetting and international police clearance check will form part of the selection process.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in Cardiology therapeutic area.
  • Experience in audit & quality improvement projects.
  • Training in biological specimen handling and shipment.

Personal Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong administrative skills and accuracy in data inputting
  • Interest in heart failure prevention and management
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task

Training:

  • Business overview as part of induction
  • GCP Training
  • Database Training.
  • High level of technical training related to clinical trials.
  • Other training where relevant
