Title:

Research Assistant

Reporting to: Principal Investigator and the Director of Clinical Trials

Location: St. Michael’s Hospital, Dun Laoghaire, and on occasion (project determined) St. Vincent’s Hospital and University College Dublin.

 

Purpose: The Research Assistant is a key member of the research team. He/she will support the research team in conducting research activities.
 
Key Tasks:
  • To work to Heartbeat Trust (HBT) standard operating procedures for our prevention programme, academic research and clinical trials.
  • Organise and prepare for STOP HF research and clinical trial subject visits
  • Maintain temperature logs of biobank fridge, freezers and drug storage areas
  • Study drug dispensing (under the supervision of a nurse or pharmacist)
  • Study drug management (receipt of stock, reconciliation checks prior to destruction)
  • Maintain sufficient stocks of documentation and equipment required for trials (e.g. case report forms, questionnaires, blood collection tubes, cryovials).
  • Administer study participant questionnaires
  • Take blood pressure and heart rate measurements from patients
  • Data management (review, databasing, cleaning and auditing of clinical data and databases)
  • Process biological samples for biobanking
  • Conduct quality control and inventory checks of samples in biobank
  • File and store study documentation in accordance with ICH GCP
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity is assured and maintained at all times during a clinical trial/research project in line with GDPR guidelines.
  • Carry out administrative work associated with the research programme as necessary
  • Adhere to nursing policies and procedures within the HBT and St Vincent’s University Hospital Group.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications / Experience: Essential:

·      Be a graduate of a science or healthcare related discipline

·      Excellent administrative skills.

·      Information Communication Technology (ICT) literate (Word suite)

·      Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·      High levels of initiative.

·      Must have the ability to work in a complementary role to medical colleagues & other members of the multidisciplinary team.

·      Able to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives.

 

*Please note that Garda vetting and international police clearance check may form part of the selection process.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous research and/or data management experience
  • Interest in cardiology research.
